X-ray Scan Controller
The X-ray Scan Controller is located in the Electronics Bay. The X-ray Scan
Controller’s has a dual purpose:
• During a Frame Acquisition Cycle the purpose is to keep the X-rays focused
on the panel under test and in line with the Rotary Scintillator,
• After completion of the Frame Acquisition Cycle the purpose is to deflect the
Electron Beam to the Dump Ring.
The X-ray Scan Controller senses the position of the Rotary Scintillator, positions
the Electron Beam 180º out-of-phase from the Rotary Scintillator, and changes the
Field of View as necessary.
Synchronizing the Electron Beam and Rotary Scintillator
To keep the X-rays focused on the panel under test, and in line with the Rotary
Scintillator, the X-ray Scan Controller synchronizes the deflection of the Electron
Beam and the rotation of the Rotary Scintillator. To perform this synchronization,
the X-ray Scan Controller needs input indicating the position of the Rotary
Scintillator.
There are two positions of the Rotary Scintillator Assembly that the X-ray Scan
Controller needs to know about:
• Reference Home — The point when the Scintillator Home Flag is actually
being detected by the Scintillator Home Optical Sensor, it is considered to be a
reference point or reference home.
• True Home — The point when the Rotary Scintillator Assembly is
perpendicular to the front of the Agilent 5DX and the Scintillator is pointing to
the rear of the Agilent 5DX is considered to be true home. This position is
derived by adding an offset count to the Reference Home position.
