Agilent 5DX Service Guide 5-41
5DX Series 3 Motion Controller PCI Cards
Motion Controller PCI 2
The Motion Controller PCI 2 provides commands from the System Controller to
the Right and Left sides of the Inner Barrier, the AWA Stepper Driver, and the
Rotary Servo Module as shown in Figure 5-20.
The Motion Controller PCI 2 also has a daughter board connected to it. The
Extended Digital I/O Daughter Board provides commands from the System
Controller to the Digital I/O Assembly.
Rotary Axis control
There is one Rotary Axis driven by a belt connected to the Rotary Axis
servomotor. The Rotary Axis provides the rotation for the Rotary Scintillator. The
Rotary Axis servomotor spins twice for every single rotation of the Rotary
Scintillator for a ratio of 2:1. Under normal operating conditions, the Rotary Axis
servomotor spins at 2000 revolutions per minute (rpm), and the Rotary Scintillator
spins at 1000 rpm. The Rotary Axis operates in a closed-loop mode as shown in
Figure 5-23. Position feedback is provided by an incremental encoder that is
attached to the Rotary Axis servomotor.
