5DX Series 3 XYZ Stage Assembly
Figure 5-8 shows the positioning of the XYZ Stage Assembly components. The
XYZ Stage Assembly contains the following components:
• X-Axis and Y-Axis Servomotors — Used to move the panel in the X-Axis
and Y-Axis.
• Z-Axis Stepper Motors — Used to move the panel in the Z-Axis.
• XYZ Stage Panel Conveyor Assemblies — Provides the means for
transporting the panel in and out of the 5DX System. The XYZ Stage
Conveyor Assemblies are made up of the XYZ Stage Conveyor Rails, Belts
and Motors, and the Auto Width Adjust Motors.
• Panel-in-Place Sensor — Indicates when a panel is in place on the XYZ Stage
Assembly.
• Panel Mechanical Stop Actuator — Retracts to allow a panel to pass in flow
through mode.
• Panel Clamps — Pneumatically actuated panel clamps used to hold the panels
in place during test operations.
• Panel Clear Sensors — Used to detect a panel in when the XYZ Stage
Assembly is in the load or unload positions.
X-Axis and Y-Axis Servomotors
The X-Axis Servomotor and the Y-Axis Servomotor are used to move the panel in
the X-Axis and Y-Axis. There is one X-Axis Servomotor (X) and two Y-Axis
Servomotors (Y
1
and Y
2
). These servomotors drive the precision lead screws and
linear axis assemblies. The linear axis bear the load of the panels, while the lead
screws translate rotary motion of the servomotors into the linear motion of the
axis. The rail assembly is designed to hold the panel by its edges, so as not to
damage installed components or interfere with X-ray imaging during test.
WARNING Do not disconnect any motor cables from the motor or servo
module unless you are certain the motor is not spinning. A
spinning motor can generate hazardous voltages. This is
especially true for the Rotary Scintillator. Be sure it stops
spinning before disconnecting any cables.
