4 Tests, calibrations and utilities
4.1 Introduction
The tests and calibrations described in this section help verify
the safety and reliability of the device. Perform the tests and
calibrations as described in Table 4-1.
If a test fails, troubleshoot the ventilator as indicated or have
the ventilator serviced.
Ensure the device passes the tests before you return the
ventilator to clinical service.
Table 4-1. When to perform tests and calibrations
When to perform Test or calibration
Before placing a new patient on the ventilator.
WARNING
To ensure the ventilator’s safe
operation, always run the full pre-
operational check before using the
ventilator on a patient.
If the ventilator fails any tests,
remove it from clinical use imme-
diately. DO NOT use the ventilator
until necessary repairs and tests are
completed and device is returned
to clinical service.
Preoperational check
1. Required after changing patient type.
2. Recommended after switching between air
and heliox.
Flow sensor calibration
1. Required after installing a new or decontami-
nated breathing circuit or component (including
a flow sensor).
2. Recommended before performing a P/V Tool
maneuver.
Tightness test, flow
sensor calibration
After installing a new oxygen cell or when
a related alarm occurs.
