5 Ventilator settings

Inspiratory pause or plateau time.
After the required gas is delivered (after
the operator-set Vt is reached), gas
remains in the lungs and exhalation is
blocked during the Tip time.
The use of a Tip increases the residence
time of gas in the patient’s lungs.
Applies to volume-controlled manda-
tory breaths, when the device is config-
