8.4.6 Envelope curve operating mode
Peak-value memories can also be used to realize an envelope curve. The
envelope function is suitable for measuring amplitude-modulated vibration.
Entering a time constant determines how quickly peak-value memory will
discharge to 30% of the peak value again when the peak value is no longer
present at memory input. The selection of a time constant depends on the
fundamental oscillation frequency f

and the modulation frequency. Usable
envelope curves can generally be obtained with a time constant of around
10 times the period of the fundamental frequency (t= 10/f
