Priming/Purging the Pump/Valve
A. Purging
1. Purging the pump/valve prepares it and the needle for dispensing.
2. The purge procedure should be performed after changing a syringe or at the end of
a dispensing process.
3. During a purge, residual fluid is forced out of the pump/valve.
B. Purge Process
1. The purge process can be invoked manually or programmed during a production
run. Purge instructions are contained in the fluid file.
2. The dispenser moves to the Purge Station, and fluid is forced into the Purge Station
cup.
3. Purge can only be invoked when the pump is in Dispense-Ready condition.
4. The valve/pump is purged for a preset amount of time.
5. Once the purge is complete, the valve/pump will automatically refill.
C. Priming the Pump
1. Prime is used to prepare the pump for dispensing or for removing air trapped in the
dispense chamber.
2. The priming procedure should be performed after installation of a clean pump and
whenever the pump is removed from the dispensing system and disassembled for
any reason.
D. Priming the Needle
1. It may be necessary to prime the needle when removing or changing it to prevent
air bubbles in the needle cavity, which can cause uneven fluid leaks. This applies
particularly to high viscosity fluids.
2. You should also prime the needle after priming the pump and before dispensing.
