Information Sheet 2-8-1
Linear Encoders
A. Linear Encoders
1. The Linear Encoder assembly consists of an encoder head and an encoder strip.
They are mounted on each of the three axes on the dispensing head.
2. They keep track of the actual dispensing head position in all three axes.
3. This information is supplied as positional feedback on a constant basis to the PMAC
by way of the Servo Interconnect PCA.
B. Linear Encoder Calibration
1. The LED on each linear encoder reader should be green when the axis is in motion.
2. If the LED turns red or orange when the axis is in motion, either the encoder strip is
dirty or damaged, or the encoder head needs adjustment.
 First try cleaning the encoder strip with a soft cloth and mild cleanser (Don’t
use solvents).
 Inspect the encoder strip for any scratches, discoloration, damage, epoxy, etc.
 If the problem is not resolved, follow the instructions in Exercise 2-8-1 and
2-8-2 for adjusting the linear encoder height.
