THE
FINAL
DRIVE
CROSS-MEMBER
Final drive cross-member-To remove
Normally, the
final
drive cross-member should not
require removal but, should the necessity arise, remove
it as follows.
1.
Follow the procedure laid down under
'Final
drive unit-To remove',
carrying
out Operations
1
to
-

inclusive.

2.
Unscrew
and
remove the two large nuts
and

heavy duty washers from the cross-member mount
f,
antre bolts
and
lower the cross-member from the
car.

Note
it may be necessary
to
lift
the carpet
in
the boot floor
and
hold the bolt heads
whilst
removing the nuts.
If'
the
final
drive
unit
is
not to be separated from the
cross-member they may be removed together as a unit.
Final drive cross-member mount-To remove
1.
To remove a
ha1
drive cross-member mount,
remove the cross-member as described previously, or
detach and lower the cross-member at least
6
in.

2.
Remove the two setscrews securing the mount

support plate to the upper face of the cross-member

then lift the mount from its location
(see
Fig.
J17).
