Introduction to Small Volume Measurements
Small volume samples are measured by reducing the measurement pathlength to
accommodate the reduced volume. For example, it would be impossible to measure a 1 μl
drop of solution in a standard 1 cm cuvette.
To make small volume measurements, the pathlength of the nanoCell accessory is decreased
by a factor of 10 (1.0 mm pathlength) or 50 (0.2 mm pathlength) compared to a traditional
10 mm pathlength cuvette.
The Beer Lambert law relates the measured absorbance of a solution to the concentration of
that solution. The Beer Lambert equation is:
