Problem Possible Cause Solution
Temperature readings do not
match expected values.
The probe is soiled or
damaged, or there is not
enough liquid in the cuvette.
Clean and reseat the probe in
the cuvette ensuring at least
2 mm of the probe tip
extends below the sample
surface. If performance is still
unacceptable, replace the
probe.
The temperature of the
sample or reference solution
(as measured by the probe)
does not match the
temperature of the external
fluid recirculator.
Sample temperature is
affected by the:
• type of cell used for the
measurement
• length of the recirculator
tubing
• degree of insulation
around the tubing
• difference between the
recirculator set
temperature and the
ambient temperature.
Set the external recirculator
temperature slightly higher
than the target temperature
for the measurement (or
apply a correction factor if
your recirculator offers that
feature).
When using multiple
thermostatted accessories
with a common recirculator,
it may be necessary to
increase the Tolerance setting
in the software to account for
the temperature differential
between the heated
components.
