Agilent 5DX Service Guide 5-3
5DX Series 3 Panel Handling Subsystem Introduction
After the Outer Barrier is closed, then the Inner Barrier opens. Meanwhile, the
panel continues moving until it hits the Panel-In-Place Sensor. The Panel-In-Place
Sensor signals the Digital I/O Assembly to turn off the XYZ Stage Conveyor
Motors and activates the Panel Clamps. Figure 5-2 shows the Inner Barrier in the
open position. At this point the panel is ready to be inspected.

Based on the panel program, the XYZ Stage Assembly handles the X-Axis, Y-
Axis, and Z-Axis movements for inspecting a panel. After the inspection is
complete the panel is unloaded. First the XYZ Stage Assembly moves to the
unload position. Then, the Panel Clamps release. In a flow-through system, the
Panel Mechanical Stop retracts, allowing the panel to travel forward through the
system. In a pass-back system, the Panel Mechanical Stop remains in position. In
either system the following sequence of events is the same, only the direction of
travel is different.
First the XYZ Stage Assembly is moved to the unload position. The unload
position is when the XYZ Stage Assembly’s conveyor is aligned with the Outer
Barrier and the external conveyor (if any), and, the XYZ Stage Assembly is in the
Z-down position (Z-down sensor is blocked; however, the XYZ Stage Assembly is
not at minimum Z height). Then the XYZ Stage Conveyor Motors turn on. The
outgoing panel rides on the XYZ Stage Conveyor Belts. The Panel Clear Sensor
detects the outgoing panel and the Inner Barrier closes. After the Inner Barrier is
closed, the Outer Barrier is opened. When the panel passes the Panel Clear Sensor,
the Outer Barrier closes.
