• Z Pulse — Used to indicate that the Digital Rotary Encoder has complete one
revolution.
During system power up (after the Scintillator Home Optical Sensor detection),
the initial Z Pulses issued by the Digital Rotary Encoder are used to initialize the
X-ray Scan Controller to the Home position. The first Z Pulse emitted from the
Digital Rotary Encoder is a “get ready” pulse that tells the X-ray Scan Controller
to read the very next Z Pulse as the “initialization” pulse. The initialization pulse
tells the X-ray Scan Controller to accept a pulse from the Scintillator Home
Optical Sensor indicating that the Rotary Scintillator Assembly is at the Reference
Home position.
Scintillator Home Optical Sensor
The Scintillator Home Optical Sensor is located next to the Rotary Scintillator
Assembly. The Scintillator Home Flag is attached to the Rotary Scintillator
Assembly, as shown in Figure 8-13. As the Scintillator Home Flag passes through
the opening of the Scintillator Home Optical Sensor a Scintillator Home Pulse is
sent to the X-ray Scan Controller to indicate that the Rotary Scintillator Assembly
is at the Reference Home position.
