Axle (ZF AP 420R)
DIFFERENTIAL DISASSEMBLY (VERSION - SCREWED
AND CAST-ON BEARING CAPS)
NOTE:
Remove the two stub shafts
before separate the differential
carrier from the axle housing,
see Figure 82 - Figure 84.
1. Drain oil from the final drive and the axle
housing.
2. Remove hex. head screws and separate
planetary carrier from the hub, using eye
bolt.
NOTE:
See “Special Tools” on page 15.
3. Pull inner plate carrier along with the sun
gear from the stub shaft.
4. Pull stub shaft out of the axle housings
squeeze out circlip and remove the plate
pack.
NOTE:
This step is necessary to allow
the later installation of the inner
plate carrier.
