A uniform negative electrical charge is applied by the charge roller to the surface of the photoconductor drum.
The photoconductive properties of the surface material allow it to hold the charge as long as it is not exposed
to light.

The printhead emits the light that contacts the surface of the photoconductor drum. The light turns on or o
coinciding with the digital latent image. The light causes areas of the photoconductor drum surface to lose
charge, resulting in a relative opposite polarity.
