Introduction Monitoring ECG, Arrhythmia, ST and QT
7 - 2 TM80 Telemetry Monitor Operator’s Manual
7.1 Introduction
The electrocardiogram (ECG) measures the electrical activity of the heart and displays it
on the TM80 as waveforms and numerics.
ECG monitoring provides 3-, 5-, and 6-lead ECG monitoring, ST-segment analysis,
arrhythmia analysis, and QT/QTc measurements.
Operations such as configuring the QRS threshold, adjusting the ST point/ISO point/J
point, configuring the ST template/QT template are performed at the CMS. For details
about these operations, refer to Chapter 13 Monitoring with the TM80 at the CMS.
7.2 ECG Safety Information
WARNING
• The TM80 is not suitable for direct cardiac application.
• Use manufacturer specified electrodes and lead wires.
• Make sure the conductive parts of electrodes and associated connectors
for applied parts, including the neutral electrode, do not contact any
other conductive parts including earth.
• Periodically inspect the electrode application site to ensure skin quality.
If the skin quality changes, replace the electrodes or change the applica-
tion site.
• Do not touch the patient or any device connected to the patient, includ-
ing the bed and gurney, during defibrillation. Otherwise serious injury
or death could result.
• False low heart rate indicators or false Asystole calls may result with cer-
tain pacemakers because of pacemaker artifact such as electrical over-
shoot of the pacemaker overlapping the true QRS complexes.
CAUTION
• Interference from a non-grounded instrument near the patient and elec-
tro-surgery interference can cause problems with the waveform.
