For information on how to handle and maintain the RF port, to minimize measurement
deviations and ensure its longevity, see the application note 1MA99.
If you want to mount test port adapters to your RF connector, see the application note
1MA100.
3.1.10 Connecting to RF 50 Ω
To connect to "RF 50 Ω"
1. Before connecting to the "RF 50 Ω" connector on the front panel, proceed as fol-
lows:
a) Prepare the "RF 50 Ω" connector. See "To prepare for connecting" on page 29.
b) If activated, deactivate the RF output. In the home screen, select the block
"Level" > "RF On > Off".
2. Connect to the "RF 50 Ω" connector. See "To connect to screwable connectors"
on page 29.
To prevent RF output switch-off
►
NOTICE! If you set a too high output level without a load connected to the instru-
ment, the reverse power can exceed a limit forcing the R&S SMB100B to switch off
the RF output.
Connect a load with sufficient return loss as given in the data sheet.
3.1.11 Connecting to Ref In/Ref Out
To connect to "Ref In"/"Ref Out"
For connection, the R&S SMB100B provides BNC connectors (reference signal fre-
quency f
ref
< 1 GHz) or SMA connectors (f
ref
= 1 GHz).
1. Before connecting, prepare the Ref In/Ref Out connectors on the rear panel. See
"To prepare for connecting" on page 29.
2. Connect to the "Ref In"/"Ref Out" connectors:
● f
ref
< 1 GHz: "To connect to pluggable connectors" on page 29
● f
ref
= 1 GHz: "To connect to screwable connectors" on page 29
