Checking the spark plug
1. Clean the electrodes “a” using a spark plug
cleaner.
2. Check:
Spark plug
Electrodes are eroded, edges of elec-
trodes are rounded, insulator is damaged,
or
there is carbon or other deposits Re-
place.
3. Measure:
Spark plug gap “a”
Out of specification Adjust or replace.
Installing the ignition coil, rectifi-
er/regulator, and spark plug
1. Install:
Spark plug
2. Install:
Grommet “1” (to the spark plug wire #4)
3. Install:
Spark plug cap
Ignition coil
Ignition coil bolt
Clamp
Gasket
Rectifier/regulator
4. Tighten:
Rectifier/regulator bolt
a. Tighten the rectifier/regulator bolts “1”
in the order [1], [2], and so on.

0.8–0.9 mm (0.031–0.035 in)
