Removing the water pump and shift
rod
1. Remove:
• Shi
ft rod
a. Set the gear shift to the N position.
b. Remove the shift rod “1”.
Checking the water pump and shift
rod
1. Check:
• Water pump housing
Deformed  Replace.
If the engine overheats, the inside of the water
pump housing may be deformed.
Therefore, make sure to remove the insert car-
tridge when checking the water pump housing.
2. Check:
• Impeller
• Inser
t cartridge
• Outer p
late cartridge
Cracked/worn  Re
place.
• Impeller key
• Keyway in the drive shaft
Deformed/worn  Replace.
• Shift rod
Bent/cracked/worn  Replace.
Assembling the water pump housing
1. Install:
• Seal (to the water pump housing)
• Cover (to the water pump housing)
• O-ring (to the water pump housing)
2. Install:
• Inser

a. Fit the protrusions “a” on the insert
cartridge “1” into the slots “b” in th
e
water pump housing “2”.
b. Install the insert cartridge “1”.
