3. Install:
O-ring (to the drive shaft housing)
Assembling the lower case
Use heat-resistant gloves. Otherwise,
burns could result.
To prevent fires, remove any flammable
substances, such as gasoline and oil,
around the working area.
Keep good ventilation while working.
1. Install:
Forward gear shim
Tapere
d roller bearing outer race
a. Install the original forward gear shims
“1”.
b. Heat the area of the lower case where
the tapered roller bearing outer race is
to be
installed using a gas torch, and
then install a new tapered roller bear-
ing outer race “2”.
When heating the lower case, heat the en-
tire installation area evenly. Otherwise, the
paint on the lower case could be burned.
Do not reuse a shim if deformed or scratched.
c. While holding the special service tool
“1”, strike the tool to check that the ta-
pered roller bearing outer race is in-
stalled properly.
If a high-pitched metallic sound is produced
when the special service tool is struck, the out
-
er race is installed properly.
2. Install:
Needle bearing “1” (in the lower
case)
