1. Check:
Battery electrolyte level
Below the minimum level mark “a” Add
distilled water until the level is between the
maximum and minimum level marks.
2. Check:
Specific gravity of
the electrolyte
Below specification Fully charg
e the
battery.
Batteries vary depending on the manufactur-
er. The procedures mentioned in this manual
may not
always apply. Therefore, see the in-
struction manual of the battery.
Disconnect the negative battery cable first,
and then
disconnect the positive battery ca-
ble.
Checking the cooling water pilot hole
1. Place the lower unit in the water, and then
start the engine.
2. Check:
Cooling water is discharged
from the cool-
ing water pilot hole
Not discharged Check the
cooling water
passages for clog.
Checking the gear oil level
1. Check:
Gear oil level
Below the proper level Add
the recom-
mended gear oil.
a. Place the outboard motor in an upright
position.
b. Remove the oil level plug “1” and gas-
ket “2”, and then check the gear oil lev-
el. If the gear oil is below the proper
level, add the recommended gear oil.
If the oil is at the proper level, a small amount
of oil should flow out of the check hole.
c. Install a new gasket and the oil level
plug, and then tighten the oil level plug
to the specified torque.
