The
Motor
sub-screen is displayed.
3. Touch the
Apex stop
key.
If the key is highlighted orange, the automatic motor stop is
activated when the physiological apex is reached.
4. To combine the automatic motor stop with the automatic switching to
counterclockwise rotation, press the
Auto-Reverse
key.
If the button is orange, following the motor stop, the next time the
foot switch is operated, the motor automatically switches to
counterclockwise rotation. When the file is withdrawn, the burr
drive automatically switches back to clockwise rotation.
5. To switch on the apex distance signal tones, press the
Apex distance
signal tones
key.
If the button is colored orange, distance signal tones will be
issued as well as the graphical distance display. The intervals
between the signal tones vary according to the measured
distance to the physiological apex. For more information on the
signal tones during apex measurement, see "Beeps" [ → 97].
6. Touch the
Return
key.
The
Motor screen
is displayed.
7. Attach the required root canal file to the handpiece.
8. Short the electrical measurement system. Plug in the files and hold
them directly against the mucosal electrode. This cancels out any
inaccuracies caused by skips in impedance in the measurement
setup (standardization).
If a short signal is heard and the distance display appears with no
bars, the standardization was successful. If not, check the
electrical connections for signs of damage.
9. Place the mucosal electrode in the patient's mouth and perform the
treatment. Activate the burr instrument using the foot switch.
The measured root canal depth is displayed by a colored bar in
the distance display. For more information, please refer to
"Distance display" [ → 96].
IMPORTANT
Preventing incorrect measurements
When performing the apex measurement, wear non-conductive gloves
to avoid measurement errors caused by unwanted leakage current.
During the measurement, the instrument must not come into contact
with the patient's mucosa or the mucosal electrode. It is recommended
to pull the protective silicon sleeve over the handpiece and perform the
treatment using a cofferdam.
