13. Appendix B – Cold Evoked Potentials
13.1 Overview
Pathway can generate cold temperature pulses with the CHEPS Thermode which can be used
for Cold Temperature Evoked Potentials. The minimum temperature the CHEPS Thermode can
reach is 20°C. The Cold Temperature Pulses for CHEPS option is an add-on feature which
requires a separate license and it is not included in the standard configuration. For additional
information please contact your local distributor.
Cold Temperature pulses for CHEPS Thermode can be generated only from the Ramp & Hold
program method.
Before creating a program for Cold Temperature pulses, review section 7, particularly see
section 7.2 about creating a new program and section 7.7.1 about the Ramp & Hold program.
For Cold Temperature pulses, create a new Ramp & Hold program for the CHEPS Thermode.
Remember!
Cold EP programs can ONLY be created under the Ramp & Hold method,
with a CHEPS Thermode.
Read the directions carefully. Creating and performing a Cold EP test
requires extra care and experience. Contact Medoc service if further
information or instructions are required.
Cold EP requires low refrigerant temperatures. Therefore it is strongly
advised that:
Sequences shall not exceed 20 trials.
After each sequence STOP the system for at least 5 minutes, by using
the Emergency Stop button – until coolant temperature goes down to
approximately 5°C.
13.2 Program Parameters
Following are program settings for the Cold EP mode:
Table 34: Program Parameters
Temperature from which each new stimulation sequence begins.
CHEPS: 30°C – 45°C
Time before
sequence (sec)
The time interval before the first trial. Valid range: 0 to 600 (sec).
Trigger mode:
Automatic – the stimulus will start automatically after the
defined Inter Stimulus Interval (ISI).
Manual – The operator must initiate the onset of the
stimulus after the defined ISI (using the manual trigger,
keyboard shortcut or TTL-IN)
Destination
temperature (°C)
Defines the destination temperature for all trials in the current
sequence. The minimum temperature is 20°C.
The interval between the baseline temperature and the destination
temperature must be lower smaller the 15°C
