16.4.2 Checking line resistance
To check the line resistance, a universal measuring instrument with internal
resistance of >20 kΩ/V, a voltage range of 15 V to 30 V, and a resistance range
of 10 kΩ to 10 MΩ is required.
ϖ The 'Station' is in operation and the display shows the 'Line fault' error
message.
1. Switch the collective detector line off:
Switch off the 'Zone' that is assigned to the collective detector line. The
'Zone' and the physical collective detector line are then switched off at the
same time. Link [ 82]
2. Switch the collective detector line on:
Switch on the 'Zone' that is assigned to the collective detector line. The
'Zone' and the physical collective detector line are then switched on at the
same time. Link [ 83]
3. Check the following with regard to the appearance of the error message:
If the error message reappears within approx. 30 s., check the end-of-line
element for the following criteria: Correct end-of-line element, visual check
for corrosion, resistance value (3.3 kΩ or. 4.7 kΩ), tolerances.
If the error message reappears at a resistance value of 3.3 kΩ and 4.7 kΩ
hours, days or weeks later, check the line specifications, base contacts and
'Detectors' for creeping short-circuit or open line. The detector line could
be in the gray zone.
4. Once a recognized error has been rectified, switch the collective detector line
off and on again; see point 1.
5. If the error message reappears, continue with the tests and measurements in
the following chapters.
16.4.3 Checking the line continuity
1. Switch the collective detector line off:
Switch off the 'Zone' that is assigned to the collective detector line. The
'Zone' and the physical collective detector line are then switched off at the
same time. Link [ 82]
2. Remove all 'Detectors' from bases and put base covers in their place.
3. Remove the wires from the connections on the line card.
4. Release the end-of-line element from the connection terminal.
5. Create a short-circuit at the end of the collective detector line.
6. Use the ohmmeter or a test buzzer to check for continuity at the maximum
permitted line resistance.
7. Rectify a recognized fault.
8. Reinsert the end-of-line element, rectify the short-circuit and reinsert the
'Detectors'.
9. Switch the collective detector line on:
Switch on the 'Zone' that is assigned to the collective detector line. The
'Zone' and the physical collective detector line are then switched on at the
same time. Link [ 83]
