2.1.5 CONNECTING ROD
The connecting rod (2), which converts the piston' recipro-
cating motion into the crankshaft's rotating motion is made
of forged steel.
The connecting rod has bearings at both ends. The piston
pin bushing (1) is a solid type bearing and the crankpin
bearing (3) is a split type bearing.
2.1.3 CRANKSHAFT
The crankshaft is made of forged steel. The journals,
crankpins and oil seals are induction-hardened to increase
wear resistance. While the front journal is supported by a
unit type bearing, the middle journal is supported by a split
type bearing. The rear journal is supported by split type
and thrust-type bearings. The crankshaft and crank pin
bearing have oil holes for lubricant ow.
2.1.4 PISTON AND PISTON RING
The pistons are made of aluminum alloy which is heat and
pressure resistant. Three rings are installed in the grooves
of each piston. The compression ring (1) is a keystone type,
which can withstand heavy load and t well to the cylinder
wall. The compression ring (2) is an undercut type, which
prevents the oil from being carried up. The oil ring (3) is an
expander type, which increases pressure on the wall.
The compression ring (1) is plated with hard chrome to
increase wear resistance.
