Chapter 12 - Troubleshooting Gas Failure

Part Number: 90 38 237, 5th edition
Gas Failure
Figure 159. NO O2 SUPPLY Alarm MessageIf the gas supply fails, the Apollo displays a message
in the status field at the top of the screen,
corresponding to the failed gas: “NO AIR SUPPLY”,
“NO N2O SUPPLY”, or “NO O2 SUPPLY” (see
Figure 159).
• Open the valve on the corresponding backup
cylinder at the back of the machine (see Figure
160)
• Restore the central pipeline gas supply
If there is no cylinder backup supply for the failed
gas, the corresponding LED on the front panel of the
machine will flash red.
In case of N
2
O or air failure, 100% O
2
should be
delivered; be sure to set the O
2
to an appropriate
flow.
In case of O
2
failure, the SORC prevents hypoxic gas
mixtures. Oxygen must be restored immediately.
Figure 160. Cylinder Locations
If there is no cylinder backup supply for the failed
gas, operation of the ventilator is still possible in
automatic ventilation modes as the electrically driven
piston ventilator does not need drive gas for
operation. Disconnecting the breathing bag from the
breathing bag arm enables the entrainment of
ambient air, thus substituting the failed fresh gas.
• Disconnect breathing bag from breathing bag
arm
• Continue ventilation using an automatic
ventilation mode
.
WARNING !
In the event of a prolonged pipeline supply
failure, the pipeline supply hose must be
disconnected from the wall supply; otherwise
the central gas supply may become
contaminated.
WARNING !
Close the backup gas cylinders during
operation unless they are necessary. If the
backup cylinders are left open while operating
with the central gas supply, gas may be taken
from the cylinders.
