Overview Chapter 6 - Operation Summary
Apollo Operator’s Manual 73
Part Number: 90 38 237, 6th edition
Overview
This section of the manual summarizes basic
operation of the Apollo, including starting operation,
changing patients, and ending operation. Specific
information on setting ventilation and monitoring
parameters is provided in later chapters of the
manual.
Figure 54. Standby Screen
Typical Operation
Operation of the Apollo begins with the Standby
screen which is displayed after the initial self tests.
This screen allows the user to restore default settings
and enter the patient parameters needed to begin a
case.
Loading Default Settings
The default settings are a set of saved ventilation,
gas monitoring, and alarm parameters that have
been previously configured in the Standby screen
(see “Configuring the Default Settings in Standby” on
page 147 for complete instructions). They are valid
whenever the Apollo is switched on and are restored
in the Standby screen as described below.
1. Press the >Restore Default Settings< key on
the Standby screen (1 in Figure 54).
2. Press the confirm knob to confirm the restore.
Entering the Patient’s Age
The patient age influences the calculation of the
MAC factor, volumeter scale, the vertical axis of loop
and ventilation monitoring graphs, alarm limits for
(optional) SpO
2
monitoring, and the automatic
volume adjustment of the Breathing Sound Emulator
(BSE) module (see page 149). In addition, the trigger
sensitivities and software algorithms for suppressing
artifacts are also modified based on age, thus
influencing the quality of ventilation in spontaneous
breathing modes.
The patient age parameter is available in the
Standby screen as well as in all ventilation modes.
Changing the patient’s age during operation
immediately impacts the parameters described
above.
1. Press the >Age< key on the Standby screen (2 in
Figure 54).
2. Turn the confirm knob until the correct patient
age is displayed, and press the knob to confirm.
