Setting up an SCALANCE W Network
Before installing an AP:
● Ensure that you have an Ethernet cable of the required length to connect an AP to the
home router.
● Ensure that you have one of the following power sources:
– IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) source. The PoE source can be
any power source equipment (PSE) switch or a midspan PSE device.
– AP power adapter kit.
Perform the following procedures to set up the SCALANCE W network:
1. Connecting an AP (Page 29)
2. Assigning an IP address to the AP (Page 30)
Based on the type of the power source used, perform one of the following steps to connect
an AP to the power source:
● PoE switch—Connect the Ethernet 0 (Enet0) port of the AP to the appropriate port on the
PoE switch.
● PoE midspan—Connect the Enet0 port of the AP to the appropriate port on the PoE
midspan.
● AC to DC power adapter—Connect the 12V DC power jack socket to the AC to DC power
adapter.
