Theory
Dynamic Modeling of the Indentation System and Sample Contact
The success of CSM relies on your ability to accurately model the
dynamic response of the indentation equipment so as to allow the
isolation of the material response. Nano Indenter systems are
purposefully designed so that the dynamic response of the indentation
equipment is easily modeled.
A schematic of an indentation head from a Nano Indenter system is
shown in
Figure A-5.

All motion is restricted to one dimension so that the system is well
modeled by a simple harmonic oscillator.
Each component in Figure A-5 is represented in the simple harmonic
oscillator models in Figure A-6 on page A-9. The simple harmonic
oscillator on the right is used to model dynamic response of a Nano
Indenter head in contact with a test sample.
