All displacements are then corrected according to the time at which they
were acquired. For example, if the indenter continues to penetrate the
material at a rate of 0.05
nm/ sec while the load is held constant, then a
displacement measurement acquired 10 seconds into the experiment is
corrected by –0.5
nm. This change may or may not be significant,
depending on the displacement magnitude. Typical values for thermal
drift are <0.05
nm/s for both the Nano Indenter G200 and the Nano
Indenter DCM. The effects shown in
Figure 7-23 and Figure 7-24 are
artificially amplified for demonstration purposes.
