4.8.2 Working Unit
It consists of a Drilling Machine capable to drill holes in I-Beams (double T beams), UPN-
Channels, Angles and Flats by means of one Drill Head carried by the machine frame.
The spindle is designed to accept twist drills up to 40 mm dia. (Morse Tapered Adaptor
No.4); the drill replacement is attained by an automatic system CNC controlled.
4.8.3 The Drilling Machine is supplied with:
- welded steel frame of portal type, complete with built-in guides where the drill head
runs and positions for drilling purpose
- one monospindle drill head, complete with angle mitering device. The spindle can be
automatically oriented by the CNC on three angles (- 90°/0°/+90°). The drilling unit is
fitted with:
- one 15 kW motor (single pole) for spindles rotation
- one driving belt system for spindle rotation
- one electronic adaptive device to automatically change from rapid advance speed to
feed rate, as the drill contacts the material, and to fast return speed as the hole drilling
operation is completed.
- one automatic tool change system
- pneumatic lube-cooling system of the drill
- one positioning and one advance systems for the drill head, each one consisting of a
ball screw system complete with a CNC controlled servomotor.
- a clamp arrangement fitted with two jaws to grip the section; each jaw is supplied with
two cylinders for vertical clamping.
- one device (flanges probe) suitable to correct the head (in vertical “C” position) zero
reference according the real width dimension of the beam.
- vertical probe (optional) to correct the rolling errors for the head in horizontal position.
