Drilling & Sawing Line
4.8.4 Frame
The frame does only meet the purpose of supporting all the drilling machine components.
It does also carry the guides where the drill head travels, the ball screw support for the drill
head positioning, the servomotor which transmits the power and load to the ball screw, the
clamp with the jaws to secure the section in position, the probes sensing devices to correct
the possible distortion of the section and all the components of the electric, hydraulic and
pneumatic systems.
One tool change device is also fitted on the frame.
4.8.5 Drilling Machine
It consists of a box enclosing the driving belt system for the spindle rotation motor.
The spindle shaft, which comes out from the box lower portion, carries the spindle tools
holder.
The drilling unit is complete with a pivoting device.
The entire assembly slides on suitable guides and is driven by a ball screw and servomotor
to ensure the drilling unit advance.
Every 15 days it is necessary to check for each axis driven by a braked motor the wearing
state of the transmission belt between the pulleys, the one of the balls screw and the one of
the motor. In the event it is necessary to remove the belt or the motor, if it is not possible to
previously carry the axis at the end of stroke downward, before carrying out any possible
operation, it is necessary to sling and support by a bridge crane, or other suitable
supporting means, the drilling or cutting unit to avoid their failing down.
