Agilent Nano Indenter G200 User’s Guide 6-12
Figure 6-17Options for Finding Surface and Allowable Drift.
The G200 uses a practice indentation to determine the elevation of the
sample surface before beginning the first measured indentation
prescribed by the batch. The first two text boxes in
Figure 6-17 tell the
instrument where to put this practice indent relative to the first
prescribed indent.
The Allowable Drift Rate sets the thermal stability criteria for initiating
testing. While the indenter is in contact with the test surface under a
small constant force, the time rate of change in the displacement must be
less than this value. The lower the value, the longer the instrument will
wait before initiating testing on a sample.
The last value, Maximum Thermal Drift Time, sets the maximum time
allowed to meet drift conditions set by Allowable Drift Rate.
