Standby Attitude Indicator (Typical)
1. Roll Pointer
Triangular mark indicates center of roll index and center of horizon spheroid.
Pointer on spheroid moves in relationship to pointer on roll index indicating
amount of roll.
2. Roll Index
Indexed scale indicates amount of roll left or right. Triangular mark indicates
center (zero degrees roll), short tick marks indicate 10 and 20 degrees
increments followed by large tick marks indicating 30, 45, and 60 degrees of
roll.
3. Miniature Airplane
Miniature airplane is fixed to the instrument frame.
4. Caging Knob
Provides a means to bypass the normal electrical erection process of the
indicator and orients the internal gyro within 1.0 degrees of an apparent
vertical axis. Pulling the knob out will erect the gyro in pitch and roll.
5. Slip Indicator
Slip and skid is indicated by ball in fluid.
