Using Swing
Swingaddsahumanfeeltotherhythm,andprovides
aneasywaytoturna“square”rhythmintoashuffle
groove.
Thisworksbyadjustingthepositionoftheup‐beats,
relativetotheWaveSequence’sSwingResolution
setting.Forinstance,iftheSwingResolutionissetto
1/8,Swing
affectseveryother8thnote.
WhiletheSwingResolutionisstoredintheWave
Sequence,theSwingamountissetintheProgram,
CombiTimbre,orSongTrack.Thisletsyouuseasingle
WaveSequenceindifferentPrograms,Combis,and
Songs,eachwithdifferentamountsofswing.
Forinstance,toturn
an8th‐noterhythmintoashuffle:
1. CreateorselectaWaveSequencewithan8th‐note
rhythm.
2. OntheSeqParameterspage,makesurethat
SwingResolutionissettoan8th‐note.
3. CreateorselectthePrograminwhichyou’dliketo
usetheWaveSequence.
4. GototheOSC1BasictaboftheOSC/Pitchpage.
5. SetMS1tousetheWaveSequenceyouselectedin
step1.
6. GototheProgramBasictaboftheBasic/Vector
page.
7. UnderWaveSequence,settheSwingparameterto
+100%.
Thismakesthe8th‐notesintoatriplet,shufflepattern.
Positivevaluesmaketheup‐beatslater,andnegative
valuesmakethemearlier.WhenSwingissetto+300%,
up‐beatswillbemovedallthewaytothenextdown‐
beat.Atthispoint,the notesontheup‐beatswillnotbe
heardatall.
IfyouareusingtheWaveSequenceinconjunction
with
KARMA,youmaywishtoadjustKARMA’s
swingamountaswell.
Swing with multiple Wave Sequences
IfaProgramcontainsmultipleWaveSequenceswith
differentSwingResolutionsettings,theProgramwill
usethefinestvalue.Forinstance,ifoneWaveSequence
issetto1/8andtheotherissetto1/16,theProgramwill
use1/16.
WaveSequenceSwing
Keeping notes in sync
Bydefault,theWaveSequencesforeachnoterun
independentlyfromoneanother,sothateachnote
soundsasanindividualvoice.
WithrhythmicWaveSequences,however,youmay
sometimeswantalloftheWaveSequencesinachord
tostarttogetherandsynctogether,inlock‐step.
OASYSgivesyou
twotoolstomakethishappen:Key
SyncOff,andQuantizeTriggers.
Key Sync Off
EachProgram,eachCombiTimbre,andeachTrackina
SonghasitsownKeySyncsetting.Thename“Key
Sync”comesfromthesimilarsettingforLFOs,
meaning“restartseparatelyforeachnote‐on.”
WhenKeySyncisOn,eachnote’sWaveSequence(s)
willprogressindependently,sothateachone
canbeon
adifferentstep,ormovingatadifferentrate.
WhenKeySyncisOff,ontheotherhand,allofthe
WaveSequenceswillbesynchronizedonthesame
step.Thereisoneexceptiontothis,however:if
Durationismodulatedwithvelocityornote‐number,
the
WaveSequencescanstillprogressatdifferentrates.

page.
2. MakesurethattheKeySyncparameterisnot
checked.
ToturnKeySyncOffinaCombiorSong:
1. GototheWaveSequence/KARMAtabof

Eachofthe16TimbresorTrackshasitsownKeySync
parameter.Ifyoulike,youcansetthemallseparately.

Quantize Triggers
QuantizeTriggersallowsyoutoforcemostTempo‐
modeWaveSequencenote‐onstobeinsync,makingit
easiertoplayalongwithotherrhythmicelements.
WhenQuantizeTriggerisOn,note‐onsarequantized
to8thnotesusingthecurrenttemporeference.(See
belowforafewmore
details.)
