WhenyoueditaDrumKit,allProgramsthatusethat
DrumKitwillbeaffected.Toavoidchangingthe
factoryvoicing,youmaywishtocopyDrumKitsto
emptylocationsintheUSERbanksbeforeediting.
Editing Drum Kits
Basic Editing
1. SelecttheProgramthatyouwishtousewhile
editingtheDrumKit.
Formoreinformation,see“First,selectaDrum
Program,”above.
2. Pressthefront‐panelGLOBALbuttontoenter
Globalmode.
3. GototheSampleSetuptaboftheDrumKitpage.
4. UsetheDrumKitparameter,atthetopofthe
screen,toselecttheDrumKitthatyouwishto
edit.
Youcansavethistoadifferentmemorylocationafter
editing,ifyoulike.
5. UsetheKeyparametertoselectthenotethatyou
wishtoedit.
Toselectakey,youcanuseanyofthestandardVALUE
controllers
(theslider,dial,numerickeypadetc.).Asa
shortcut,youcanalsoholddowntheENTERkeyand
playanoteonthekeyboard.
ThisKeyselectionappliestoallthreeDrumKitediting
tabs.
6. UsetheAssigncheckboxtospecifywhetherthe
keywillhaveitsownsettings,or
usethesame
settingsasthenexthighernote.
IfAssignischecked,thekeywillhaveitsownsettings.
Thisisthedefault.
IfAssignisnotchecked,thekeywon’thaveitsown
settings.Instead,itwillusethesamesettingsasthe
nexthighernote–exceptthatthedrum
sampleswillbe
playedatalowerpitch.Theamountofpitchchange
dependsonthePitchSlopeparameter,ontheOSC1
PitchtaboftheOSC/Pitchpage.
Usethissettingwhenyouwantonlytochangethe
pitch,suchaswithtomorcymbalsounds.
Creating a velocity crossfade
Forthiskey,let’screateasimplevelocitycrossfade
betweentwostereodrumsamples.
1. Ontheleftsideofthescreen,makesurethatDS1
andDS2areturnedOn.
JustpresstheOn/Offbuttonstotogglethem,if
necessary.
2. Similarly,makesurethatDS3andDS4areturned
Off.
Whentheyare
turnedoff,mostoftheirparameterswill
begrayedout.
3. SelectROMStereoastheBankforDS1andDS2.
TherearethreemaintypesofDrumSampleBanks:
ROM,RAM,andEXs.Foreachtype,youcanalso
choosebetweenlookingatmonoandstereoDrum
Samples.Notethat
stereoDrumSampleswillrequire
twiceasmanyvoicesasmonoDrumSamples.
ROMDrumSamplesarethebuilt‐in“factory”sounds,
andarealwaysavailable.Theseareorganizedby
category,suchasbassdrums,snares,hats,etc.
RAMDrumSamplesincludeAkai,AIFForWAVfiles
loadedfromdisk,and
samplescreatedinSampling
mode.
EXsDrumSamplebanksarePCMexpansionsets
createdespeciallyfortheOASYS.Eachhasitsown
uniquenumber;forinstance,theROMExpansionis
EXs1,andtheConcertGrandPianoexpansionisEXs2.
OnlythecurrentlyloadedEXsbankswillappearon
thismenu.
4. Pressthe
DrumSamplepopupforDS1.
ThisbringsupalistofDrumSamples,organizedby
category.Usethetabsattheleftofthescreentobrowse
throughthedifferentcategories.
ForalistoftheDrumSamplenames,pleaseseethe
VoiceNameList.
5. SelectaDrumSamplebytouchingits
nameinthe
list.
6. PresstheOKbuttontoconfirmyourselection.
7. DothesameforDS2.
Nowthatyou’veassignedDrumSamplestoDS1and
DS2,let’ssetupthevelocityrangesandcrossfades.
8. SetDS2’sBottomVelocityto001,anditsXfade
Rangeto0.
9. SetDS1’sBottomVelocityto80.
Now,DS2willsoundwhenyouplaysoftly,at
velocitiesof79orless–andDS1willsoundwhenyou
playharder,withvelocitiesof80ormore.
Youcanalsoseethissplitvisually,inthegraphiconthe
rightsideoftheLCD.
10.Next,setDS1’sXfadeRangeto20,and
itsCurveto
Linear.
Noticethatthegraphicnowshowsthetworanges
taperingintooneanother.Between80and100,DS2
willfadeout,andDS1willfadein,creatingagradual
velocitytransitioninsteadofahardsplit.
