Creating songs (Sequencer mode)
Overview - About the OASYS’ sequencer
TheOASYS’sequencercanholdupto200songsand
400,000MIDIeventsor300,000audioevents.Itconsists
ofa16trackMIDIsequenceranda16trackharddisk
recorder,givingyouatotalof32tracks.
YoucanusethesixteenMIDItracksandonemaster
track(containing
tempodata,etc.)torecordandplay
backMIDIdatausinginternalorexternaltone
generators,andusethesixteenaudiotracksofthehard
diskrecordertorecordandplaybackaudiosignals.
(Youcanplaybackuptosixteenaudiotracks
simultaneously,andrecorduptofouraudiotracks
simultaneously.)
Audiotrackscanrecordexternalaudiosourcessuchas
guitarandvocal,aswellastheOASYS’internaltone
generator.Automationdataforvolumeandpancan
alsoberecorded.
Whenyou’vecompletedasong,youcanresampleitto
aWAVEfileanduseDiskmodetoburnyour
WAVE
filestoanaudioCD.Thisentireprocesscanbecarried
outontheOASYSitselfwithoutusinganyother
equipment.
WithitsbroadrangeofcapabilitiessuchasitsIntrack
Samplingfunction,TimeStretch/Slicefunction,
KARMAfunction,highqualityeffects,andcontrollers,
theOASYSistheidealenvironment
formusic
productionorliveperformance.
Whenyouturnoffthepower,thesettingsmadein
Sequencermodeandthesongdata,andanyuser
patterndatathatyourecordedwillnotbebacked
up.Ifyouwishtokeepthisdata,youmustsaveit
onmedia(suchasthe
internalharddiskorCDR,or
anexternalUSBdevice)beforeturningoffthe
power,orperformaMIDIdatadumptosavethe
dataonanexternaldatafileretc.
Ifyouwishtosavetheprograms,trackparameters,
effects,andKARMAfunctionsettingsetc.selected
forasong
asatemplatesong,usethepagemenu
command“SaveTemplateSong.”
Immediatelyafterthepoweristurnedon,OASYS
willnotcontainanysongdata,soifyouwishto
playasongonthesequencer,youmustfirstload
datafromdisk,orreceiveaMIDIdatadumpfrom
a
MIDIfiler.Formoreinformation,see“Loadingdata

Youcan’trecordaudiotracksifMIDIClockisother
thanInternal.(See“MIDIClock(MIDIClock

Sequencer mode structure
Songs
AsongconsistsofMIDItracks1–16,amastertrack,
audiotracks1–16,songparameterssuchasthesong
name,vectorfunction,KARMAfunction,effectand
RPPRparameters,and100userpatterns.
Amaximumof200suchsongscanbecreatedon
OASYS.
MIDItracks1–16andaudiotracks1–16eachconsist
of
setupparameterslocatedatthestartlocation,and
musicaldatawithinthetrack.Themastertrack
consistsoftempoandtimesignaturedata.

Song recording and editing
Songrecordingisperformedontracks.Youcanrecord
MIDItracksineitheroftwoways;realtimerecording
orsteprecording.Forrealtimerecordingyoucan
chooseoneofsixrecordingmodes.
Audiotrackscan berecordedonlyinrealtime.Youcan
alsopasteWAVEfilestolocationsyouspecify.
Youcanedit
MIDItracksbyusingEventEdit
operationstomodifytherecordeddataorinsertnew
data,andbyusingTrackEditoperationssuchas
CreateControlData,whichinsertspitchbend,
aftertouch,orcontrolchangedata.
Youcanalsoeditaudiotracksinavarietyofways
includingEventEditingoperations
thatletyouinsert
ordeleteaudioevents,andRegionEditingoperations.
RegionEditingallowsyoutoselectWAVEfilesandto
editthestart/endaddressesofaWAVEfileinsingle
sampleunits.
Patterns
Therearetwotypesofpatterns:presetpatternsand
userpatterns.
Presetpatterns:Patternssuitablefordrumtracks
arepresetininternalmemory,andcanbeselected
foranysong.
Userpatterns:Eachsongcanhaveupto100
patterns.Whenusingapatterninadifferentsong,
usetheUtility
menucommands“CopyPattern”or
“CopyFromSong”etc.tocopythepattern.The
patternlengthcanbespecifiedinunitsofa
measure.
Eachpatternconsistsofmusicaldataforonetrack.Itis
notpossibletocreatepatternsthatcontainmultiple
tracks.
Youcanusethesepatternsbyplacing
theminaMIDI
track(“PuttoMIDITrackpagemenucommand)or
bycopyingthem(“CopytoMIDITrackpagemenu
command).YoucanalsousepatternswiththeRPPR
functionofasong.
