Mosthardwaresynthesizersofferasingle,fixed
methodofsynthesis,apredeterminednumberof
voices,andafixedamountofeffectsprocessingpower.
OASYSisdifferent;ithasnofixedsynthesismethod,
anditsharesitsprocessingpowerbetweenvoicesand
effects.
Thisflexibilitymeansthatthesystemcandeliver
power
whereyouneeditthemost.Forinstance,one
Programmayneedabunchofvoiceslayeredtogether,
butnotmanyeffects;anothermightneedcomplex
effectsprocessing,butnotasmanyvoices.Inboth
cases,OASYSwillautomaticallydivideitsprocessing
powerappropriately.
Unlikemostcomputer‐basedsystems,OASYSalso
monitorstheoverallprocessingpower,reducingthe
overallnumberofvoicesifnecessary,tomakesurethat
thereareneverproblemswiththeaudio.
Normally,youshouldn’tneedtothinkaboutthisatall;
itwilljusthappenautomatically.Sometimes,however,
itcanbeconvenienttoknowhowthesystemis
allocatingitsresources.TheEffect/EXiResourceMeter,
shownontheP8:InsertEffect–InsertFX,TrackView
andP9:MasterEffect–Routingpagesofeachmode,
providesthisinformation.
Effect/EXi Fixed Resource Meter
TheresourcemetershowshowtheOASYSprocessing
powerisbeingused,asanapproximatepercentageof
thetotalavailablepower.Therearethreemain
categories:FX,EXiFixed,andFreeforVoices.
Note:thedisplayedvaluesareroundedtotheclosest
1%,buttheinternalvalueshaveamuch
finer
resolution.Thismeansthatyoumaysometimesaddan
effect,butseenochangeintheresourcemeter.
FX
Thisshowsthepercentageofthetotalprocessing
powerbeingusedfortheIFX,MFX,andTFX.Thiswill
varydependingonthespecificeffectsbeingused.
IfaneffecthasbeenassignedtoanIFX,MFX,orTFX,it
willtakeupthesameamountofprocessingresources
evenif
itisturnedOfforbypassed.Ifyouwanttofree
uptheprocessingresources,changetheselectionto
000:NoEffect.
EXi FIXED
Thisshowsthepercentageofthetotalprocessing
powerusedforthefixedcomponentsofEXi
instruments.“Fixed”meansthatpartoftheEXistarts
usingprocessingpowerassoonastheEXiisloaded,
beforeplayinganynotes;thisincludesthebuilt‐in
effectsoftheCX‐3,
forexample.
OnlysomeEXiincludefixedcomponents;forinstance,
theCX‐3does,buttheAL‐1doesnot.Forinformation

FREE FOR VOICES
Thisshowsthepercentageofthetotalprocessing
powerremainingaftertheFXandEXifixed
components.Thispowerisavailableforplaying
synthesizervoices.
WhenFreeforVoicesisat100%,youcanachievethe
maximumpolyphony–forinstance,172voicesofthe
HD‐1,96voicesoftheAL‐1,
or172voicesoftheCX‐3.
WhenmoreeffectsorEXifixedresourcesarebeing
used,polyphonywillbereducedaccordingly.
Note:Aswiththemeterasawhole,thenumbershown
inFREEFORVOICESisonlyanapproximation.For
example,ifFREEFORVOICESisshowing98,
the
maximumpolyphonyfortheHD‐1maynotbeexactly
172x0.98(approximately168).
