Lossless compression
EXs1and2areloadedintoRAMusingalossless
compressiontechnique.Thisyieldsamodestreduction
insize:EXs1uses284MBofRAMfor313MBofdata,
andEXs2uses464MBfor503MBofdata.
You’llnoticethatthisismuchmilderthanthedramatic
sizereductionsofmp3,or
thePCMcompression
sometimesfoundinothersynthesizers.Thereisa
strongadvantageovertheseothermethods,however:
theOASYScompressioniscompletelylossless,and
causesabsolutelynodegradationinaudioquality.
User sampling RAM capacity
TheOASYScomeswith1GBofRAMpre‐installed,
whichcanbeexpandedupto2GBwithauser‐
installableDIMMmodule.Thismemoryisshared
betweentheoperatingsystem,ROMandEXssamples,
andRAMsamples.
Inparticular,thesizeofthecurrentlyloadedEXs
samplestradesoff
againstthememoryavailablefor
RAMsamples.ThemorespaceusedbytheEXs
samples,thelessisavailableforRAMsamples,as
shownbelow.

Selecting which EXs PCM data is loaded
YoucanchangewhichEXsareloadedatanytime,as
longasthereisenoughRAMtoaccommodatethem.
TheOASYSrememberswhichEXsyou’veselected,
andwillautomaticallyloadthematstartup.Toselect
whichEXsareloaded:
1. Pressthefront‐panelGLOBALswitchtoenter
Globalmode.
2. Pressthe
EXITswitchtogototheP0:BasicSetup
page.
3. IntheupperrightoftheLCDscreen,pressthe
pagemenubuttonandchoosetheExpansion
SampleSetupcommand.
TheExpansionSampleSetupdialogboxwill
appear. EachinstalledEXswillbeshown,witha
check‐boxnexttoitsname;fromthefactory,this
includesEXs1andEXs2.
4. ChecktheboxesfortheEXsthatyouwanttoload,
andun‐checktheboxesfortheonesthatyoudo
not.
ToloadbothEXs1andEXs2atthesametime,you
mustfirstexpandtheinstalledRAMtoatleast
1.5
GB.
5. PresstheOKbutton.
