Basic HD-1 Structure
Multisamples and Wave Sequences
ThesoundoftheHD‐1startswithoneormore
Multisamples.Thesecanberecordingsofinstruments
likepiano,bass,guitar,strings,organs,analogsynths,
andsoon,orpurelydigitally‐createdtimbres.
YoucanusetheseMultisamplesdirectly,orusethem
throughWaveSequences,whichplayaseriesof
differentMultisamplesovertimetocreaterhythmsor
complex,evolvingtimbres.
Oscillator Mode
HD‐1SingleProgramshaveoneoscillator,andDouble
Programshavetwooscillators.Eachoscillatorincludes
acompletesynthesisvoice,withvelocity‐switched
Multisamples,dualfilters,EGs,LFOs,andsoon.
DrumsmodeisaspecialvariationofSinglemode,and
usesaDrumKit(ascreatedinGlobalmode)instead
of
Multisamples.
SingleProgramsuseoneoscillator,foramaximumof
172‐notepolyphony.
DoubleProgramsusetwooscillators,foramaximum
of84‐notepolyphony.
DrumProgramsuseoneoscillatortoplayaDrumKit.
Thesewillnormallyhaveamaximumof172‐note
polyphony.
A note about polyphony
Polyphonymeansthenumberofnotesthatyoucan
playatatime.Thisnumberwillvarydependingonthe
particularsoundbeingplayed,andhowthatsoundis
produced.Generallyspeaking:
•DoubleProgramsusetwiceasmanyvoicesas
SinglePrograms.
• WaveSequencesusetwiceasmanyvoicesas
Multisamples.
•Stereo
Multisamplesusetwiceasmanyvoicesas
MonoMultisamples,andStereoWaveSequences
usetwiceasmanyvoicesasMonoWaveSequences.
•IftheVectorEGisenabled,thenumberofvoices
usedincreasesslightly.
Voice Assign Mode
TheVoiceAssignModeselectswhethertheProgram
willplaypolyphonically(Poly)ormonophonically
(Mono).
WhenthisissettoPoly,youcanplaybothchordsand
melodylines.WhenthisissettoMono,onlyonenote
willsoundevenifyouplayachord.
Normallyyou’ll
setthistoPoly,butMonoisuseful
whenplayingsoundssuchassynthbasses,synth
leads,andothersoloinstruments.Tryswitching
betweenPolyandMono,andlistentotheresults.
Using Drum Kits
YoucancreateandeditDrumKitsinGlobalmode.For
eachnoteonthekeyboard,youcanselectuptofour
velocity‐crossfadeddrumsamples,makefilterand
ampsettings,andspecifyroutingtotheeffectsandto
theindividualaudiooutputs.

InPrograms,onceyou’vesettheOscillatorModeto
Drums,youcanselectbetweenthe144user‐
programmableDrumKits,plusanadditional9GM2
kits.Formoreinformationonthefactorysounds,see

Copying settings between OSC1 & OSC2
ManyoftheProgramparameterscanbesetdifferently
forOSC1andOSC2.Theseincludeallofthe

pan, EQ, and send levels
