highlysophisticatedmusicalchangessimplyby
operatingtheKARMArealtimecontrols.
KARMA
isanalgorithmicMIDIdatageneration
technologythatdoesnotsimplygenerateMIDIdatain
aone‐sidedmanner;itchangesitsowninternal
settingsaccordingtothenotesandchordformsthat
youplay,andrespondstotheinputfromtheKARMA
realtimecontrolstoautomaticallyvarythemusical
data
itgenerates.ThisletsKARMAcontributetoyour
musicalcreativityinanenormouslypowerfulway.
TheheartofKARMAconsistsofGEs(Generated
Effects)andKARMAmodules.AGEisanalgorithm
thattakesthenotesandchordsyouplay,andgenerates
phrases,patterns,andtonalchangesinresponse.The
OASYSprovidesagenerousassortmentof2,048preset
GEs.ThevastnumberofGEsareorganizedinto12
categoriesaccordingtotheirpurpose,forquickand
easyselection.
InProgrammodeyoucanuseoneKARMAmodule,
andinCombinationandSequencermodesyoucanuse
uptofourKARMAmodules.
Youcanstoreuptoeight
“scenes”–setsofparametersettingsthatdetermine
howtheKARMAmodulesgenerateperformancedata
–andswitchbetweenthemasdesired.Additionally,
youcanusethecontrolsurfaceofthepaneltocontrol
theKARMAfunctioninrealtime.Virtuallyinfinite
performancepossibilitiesareat
yourfingertips.
ModuleControlfunctionalityletsyoucontroleach
KARMAmoduleseparatelyortogether.ThenewRTC
modelautomaticallysets‐uptypicalrealtimecontrol
parametersettingsforeachGE,providesa
revolutionaryleapofefficiencyinsettingupasong.

mono/stereosamplingfunctionality.Samplescanbe
eitherrecordedintoRAMmemoryorwrittendirectly
totheinternalharddiskasWAVE files.
TheamountofRAMavailableforsamplingdepends
uponthecurrentlyloadedEXssamples,asdescribed
under“Samplingand
RAM”onpage 123.Whenthere
is500MBofRAMavailable,forinstance,youcan
sampleuptoapproximately91minutes(monaural)or
45minutes30seconds(stereo).
Whensamplingtotheinternalharddisk,asingle
samplefilecanbeupto80minuteslongforeither
monauralorstereo.Samples
recordedtotheharddisk
canbeloadedintoRAMmemoryandusedastone
generatorwaveforms.
YoucanloadsamplefilesinAIFF,WAVE,AKAIS1000/
3000,orKorgformats;allwillbehandledasKorg
formatdataoncetheyareloaded.Youcanalsoexport
sampledataas
AIFForWAVEfiles.Youcanusethe
internalCD‐R/RWdriveoraUSBCD‐ROMorCD‐
R/RWdrivetoripaudiodatainthedigitaldomain
fromanaudioCD.Alternatively,youcancapturethe
playbackofanaudioCDfromtheAUDIOINPUT
jacks.
