Step Sequencer
ThestepsequencerbuiltintotheAL‐1cannotonly
playphrasesorrhythms,butalsobeusedasan
extremelysophisticatedmodulationsource.Ifthe
outputofthestepsequencerisassignedtoPitch,the
resultwillbeamelodicphrase.Ifassignedtothefilter,
thefilterwill
producemodulationinsynchronization
withthetempo.
Thestepsequenceralsoprovidesa“Smoothing”
parameterthatinterpolatesbetweenthevaluesofeach
step,lettingyoucreatenotjuststep‐wisemodulation
butalsosmoothchangethatcanfunctionasanLFO
withfreely‐specifiedwaveform.Sinceyoucanspecify
theduration
ofeachstepindividually,thiscanbeused
tocreatenotjustsimplebeatsbutalsocomplex
rhythms,producingamind‐bogglinguniverseof
phrases,rhythms,andmodulation.

morepowerfulthananyother,withAMS(Alternate
ModulationSource)atitscore.Youcanchoosefroman
amazing52differentmodulationsources,including
theoutputofthestepsequencer,EGs,andLFOs,as
wellascontrollerssuchasthe
joystick,knobs,pedals,
andswitches.Thesesourcescanbeassignedto
modulationdestinationssuchassoundparameterslike
pitchorcutoff,andcanalsobeusedtomodulatethe
EGattacktimeorsustainlev el.Youcanevencreatea
highlycomplexmodulationsourcebyusingone
modulationsourceto
modulateanothermodulation
source;forexample,usinganEGtomodulatethe
waveformofanLFO.
TherearealsotwoKeyTrackinggeneratorsthatletyou
createnaturalchanges–ordramatictransformations–
inparametervaluesasyouplaydifferentrangesofthe
keyboard.

A perfect simulation of a tonewheel organ system
Tonewheelorgansgeneratesoundbyrotatingtoothed
metaldisks(thetonewheels)pastapickuptogenerate
sinewaves.Korg’sCX‐3usescutting‐edgemodeling
technologytopreciselyreplicatethedistinctive
modulationandnoisecomponentsofsounds
producedinthisway,andthistechnologyhasbeen
furtherrefinedandincludedin
theOASYSastheCX‐3.
Twotonewheeltypesareprovided;“Vintage”which
modelseventheleakagenoisefromthetonewheels,
and“Clean”whichfaithfullyreproducesthewarm
tonewheelorgansound.Inaddition,thenoises
producedbythetonewheelandthevacuumtubeamp,
andeventheoperationofthe
wheelbrake,haveall
beensimulatedtoanobsessivedegreeofperfection.
Justlikerealtonewheelorgans,theCX‐3deliversfull‐
keypolyphony*,lettingyouenjoythesameplaying
feelasonavintageorgan.

Adrawbarorganallowstheplayertocreatethe
desiredsoundbypullingoutdrawbarsthatare
assignedtovariouspitchesrelativetothefundamental,
andthiscapabilityisprovidedontheCX‐3Tonewheel
OrganbytheToneAdjustfunctionwhichyoucan
controlusingthenineslidersonthe
frontpanel.You
canalsousetheToneAdjustfunctiontoswitchthe
rotaryspeakerbetweenslow/fastandcontrolthe
percussionandwheelbrakefromfrontpanelknobs
andswitchesthatyou’veassignedtothesefunctions,
enjoyingtheimmediacyofdynamiccontrolthat’sso
importantforanorganperformance.
EX mode for new sound-creating potential
Inadditiontomodelingastandardtone‐wheelorgan
with9drawbarsandsingle‐pitchpercussion,theCX‐3
addsKorg’sexclusiveEXmode.Thisaddsfour
additionaldrawbars,withpitchesadjustableinhalf‐
stepincrementsbetween16’andtwooctavesabove1’.
EXmodealsoallowsyoutocreatecustom
percussion
usinguptofivedifferentpitches,eachwithadjustable
volumelevels.Together,theadditionaldrawbarsand
custompercussionopenupevendeeperpossibilities
