18 SHORT MESSAGE SERVICE
18.1 Public SMS
Description
ipLDK implements the ETSI ES201 912 V1.1.1 standard SMS protocol 1. The ipLDK sends
and receives messages from an SMS Service Center. Messages can be sent from any of the
LG-Ericsson softphones (ez-Attendant, ez-phone or Phontage) or specially designed SMS
SLTs to the service center.
When an SMS is received, the system routes the message based on the assigned SMS
Destination. If the message is for a DKT, it is stored until read otherwise; the message is sent
to the designated destination and erased from the ipLDK memory.
Operation
For operation with an LG-Ericsson softphone or an SMS SLT, refer to the appropriate User
guide.
To retrieve SMS from a DKT when the LCD indicates SMS messages are available,
1. Press the [CALLBK] button, a list of messages is displayed.
2. Use the Volume-up and down buttons to scroll the list.
3. Dial the index for the desire message.
4. Delete the message with the Delete softkey or return to the previous display with the
Back softkey.
Consideration
In case of power failure, SMS messages are not saved.
IpLDK-60 can provide simultaneous service to four (4) SMS channels.
IpLDK-60 can store a maximum of 100 messages. When the buffer is full, a warning is
sent to the System Attendant and new messages are not received.
For an SMS compatible SLT, ipLDK will respond to a maximum of three regeneration
requests after which the message is erased from the ipLDK-60 SMS buffer
The maximum SMS message size for the LG-Ericsson softphones is 160 characters.
