Enable and Configure SNMP
Overview SimpleNetworkManagementProtocol(SNMP)isaprotocolfor
monitoringthehealthandwelfareofyourlibrarybyusingintegrated
alerts.WhenSNMPisenabled,theOther SettingspaneintheSystemSetup
screenincludesoptionsforenablingtheSNMPagentandconfiguring
SNMPsettings.
Note: SpectraLogiclibrariesimplementSNMPVersion2.
Network-Based Library Management Ifyouareusinganetwork‐based
librarymonitor/managementapplicationotherthanthelibrary’sBlueScale
userinterface,youmayneedtoidentifythelibrary’sSNMPsettingstothe
application.Thesesettingsincludetheread,write,andbroadcast
communitystrings.
Configure SNMP UsethefollowingstepstoenableandconfigureSNMP.
1. AccesstheSystemSetupscreen(seeAccessingtheSystemSetupScreen
onpage104)andscrolldowntotheOtherSettingspane.
2. Select Enable SNMP AgenttoenableSNMPinthelibraryandclickSave.
TheSystemSetupscreenrefreshestoincludeanoptionforeditingthe
SNMPsettings.
Theagentreturnsinformationcontainedinthelibrary’sManagement
InformationBase(MIB)totheworkstationusedtomanagethe
network.TheMIBdefineswhatinformationisavailablefromthe
libraryoverthenetwork.AppendixB–SNMPMIBListing,beginning
onpage517providesalistingofthecurrentMIBforthelibrary.
