Update Using Drive Update through Package Update
Drivefirmwareisdownloadedandstagedtoeachdriveasabackground
process.Thisdoesnotaffectlibraryoperation.Theupdateisthenappliedtoall
selecteddrivesinparallel.Thistakesfrom15to30minutes,duringwhichtime
thedriv esmustbeemptyandidle.
Requirements
ThelibrarymustberunningBlueScale12.3.1orlatergeneration
software.
ThedrivesmustbeLTO‐5andlatergenerationdrivesorTS11x0
technologydrives.
Note: ContactTechnicalSupportbeforeusingthiswizardtoupdate
LTO‐3orLTO‐4drives.Thesedrivetypesmustremainempty
andidleduringtheentireupdate,whichmaytakeupto8hours
perdrive.
Thefirmwarestagingprocesstakesupto8hoursforLTO‐5andlater
generationsdrives,andupto16hoursforTS11x0technology drives.
Backupscancontinueduringthisprocess.
Thedrivestoupdatemustbeconfiguredinastoragepartition.
ToupdatethefirmwareofaGlobalSpare,firstsubstitutetheGlobal
Sparedriveforadriveassignedtoapartition.AftertheGlobalSpare
drivecompletesthefirmwareupdateprocess,itcanberemovedfrom
thepartitionandreturnedtothepoolofsparedrives(see
Usethe
GlobalSpareDriveonpage397formoreinformation).

Your library must either be under warranty or you must have a current service
contract with Spectra Logic Technical Support before you can update the drive
firmware using Package Update. The BlueScale Software Service key associated
with your service contract must be entered into the System Configuration screen
before you can use Package Update.
