Thefollowingtabledescribesthefunctionsofeachcontrolmodule:
Exporting Controllers
Eitheradirect‐attachedLTO‐5orlatergenerationdrive,aRIM,oranF‐QIP
isrequiredtoprovidethecontrolpathforthelibrary’srobotics.When
configuringastoragepartition,thedeviceyouselecttoprovidetherobotic
controlpathisreferredtoasthe“exportingcontroller”forthepartition.
Note: Unlessotherwisespecified,thefeaturesofbothRIMandRIM2
arethesameand“RIM”isusedtorefertoboth.
ThecontrolleristhebridgebetweenanexternalFibreChannelconnection
fromthehostandtheinternalinterfaceusedbythelibrary.Itprovidesthe
controlpathforthemediachangercommandssentfromthehosttothe
library.ThecontrollerrelaysthecommandstotheRCM,whichprocesses
thecommands
andusesthemtocontroltheroboticsinthelibrary.
Control Module Function
Library Control
Module (LCM)
RunstheBlueScalesoftware,whichprovidestheBlueScaleuserinterfacethatis
usedtoperformallconfiguration,import/export,andmanagementfunctions
forthelibrary.TheBlueScaleuserinterfaceisaccessedlocallythroughthe
library’stouchscreen.Inaddition,anembeddedwebserverprovidesremote
accesstotheBlueScalewebinterfaceand
totheXMLcommandinterfaceusing
astandardwebbrowser.
Inadditiontoprovidingtheuserinterface,theBlueScalesoftwarerunningon
theLCMgeneratesandmain tainstheMLMdatabase,BlueScaleencryption
keys,systemlogs,andotherinformationrelatedtothecurrentsyst emstatus.It
alsohandlesemailoperationssuchas
sendingabackupfileandAutoSupport
logstopreconfiguredrecipients.
Robotics Control
Module (RCM)
Processesmediachangercommandsfromthehostsandstoragemanagement
softwaretocontroltheoperationoftherobotics.TheRCMalsostoresallofthe
informationrelatingtothelocationandstatusofeachelementinthelibrary,as
wellastherawmediainventoryinitsnon‐volatilememory.This
functionality
allowsthelibrarytocontinueperformingbackup/restoreoperations,even
whentheuserinterfaceprovidedthroughtheLCMisunavailable.
