LCM and RCM Functionality
Thefunctionalityprovidedbythecontrolmoduleisdeterminedbywhere
themoduleisinstalledandtheinformationonthememorycardinstalled
inthemodule.
Wheninstalledinthetopbayofthemainframe,themodulefunctions
astheLibraryControlModule(LCM).
Note: DriveexpansionframesdonothaveanLCM.Acoveroverthe
openingwheretheLCMwouldbeinstalledmaintainsproperair
circulationthroughouttheframe.
Wheninstalledinthebottombayofthemainframeorinadriveexpansion
frame,themodulefunctionsastheRoboticsControlModule (RCM).
Memory Card

Thememorycardineachmodulestoresinformationrelatedtoitsfunctional
roleinthelibrary.Whenthelibrarycontrolmoduleisinstalledinthelibrary
andpoweredonforthefirsttime,thelibrarydeterminesthelocationandthen
activateseithertheLCMorRCMcodeonthememorycard.
Oncethisisdone,
themoduleperformsonlythefunctionsdefinedbytheactivatedcodeonthe
memorycard.Inadditiontothecodethatdeterminesthemodule’sroleinthe
library,thememorycardisusedtostorethefollowing:
IntheLCM,itstoresthelibrary’sconfigurationinformation,activationkeys,
systemsettings,andpartitionsettings.ItalsostorestheMLMandDLM
databasesandinformationrelatedtothecurrentsystemstatus.
IntheRCM,itstoresthelibrary’sconfigurationinformationandsystemlogs.

aSecureDigital(SD)memorycard.
Oneextramemorycardisshippedwithnewlibrariesforerrorrecovery.
