DELETING A PARTITION
Overview Whenyoudeleteapartition,thedrivesandchambers
previouslyassignedtothatpartitioncanbereassignedtoanexisting
partitionorusedtocreateanewpartition.
Preparation Beforedeletinganexistingpartition,reviewtheinformation
atthebeginningofthischapter tobesurethatyouaddressany
requirements(seePartitionTypesandRequirementsonpage182).In
addition,makesureyouaddressthefollowing:
SpectraLogicstronglyrecommendsbackingupthelibrary
configuration,eithertoaUSBdeviceorasanattachmenttoanemail
senttoapreviouslyconfiguredmailrecipient,beforeyoudeletea
partition.
Toensurethatyoudonotinadvertentlymixcartridgesfromone
storagepartitionwiththatfromanother,useyourstoragemanagement
softwaretoejectallofthecartridgesfromthestoragepartition’sstorage
pool.Thelibrarymovesthemediatothepartition’sentry/exitpool.
ExportthemediafromthelibraryasdescribedinExportingor
ExchangingMagazinesandCartridgesonpage237.
IfthestoragepartitionisconfiguredtouseGlobalSpares,editthe
partitionanddeselectallofthedrivesthataredesignatedasGlobal
Sparesforthepartition.
IfthestoragepartitionisconfiguredtouseBlueScaleencryption,make
surethatyouexporttheBlueScaleencryptionkeyforanycartridges
thatwereinthepartition(seetheSpectraTapeLibrariesEncryptionUser
Guide).Theencryptionkeyisrequiredinordertoaccessthedataonthe
cartridgesatalaterdate.
Ifyouplantodeleteacleaningpartition,editanystoragepartitionsthat
usethecleaningpartitiontounassociatethecleaningpartitionfromthe
storagepartition.
After the partition is deleted, any magazines in the chambers that were assigned to
the partition’s storage and entry/exit pools are not accessible until the chambers
are assigned to another partition.
