CertainrecordsretentionanddatasecurityapplicationsrequireaWrite
Once,ReadMany(WORM)methodforstoringdataontape.LTO‐3and
latergenerationdrivesandTS11x0technologydrivesenableWORM
supportwhenaWORMtapecartridgeisloadedintothedrive.
WORM Media Requirements Becausestandardread/writemediaare
incompatiblewiththeWORMfeature,aspeciallyformattedWORMtape
cartridgeisrequired.EachWORMcartridgehasaunique,worldwide
cartridgeidentifier(WWCID),whichcomprisestheuniqueCMchipserial
numberandtheuniquetapemediaserialnumber.
Data Security on WORM Media Certainbuilt‐insecuritymeasureshelp
ensurethatthedatawrittenonaWORMcartridgedoesnotbecome
compromised,forexample:
TheformatofaWORMtapecartridgeisunlikethatofstandardread/
writemedia.ThisuniqueformatpreventsadrivethatlacksWORM‐
capablefirmwarefromwritingonaWORMtapecartridge.
WhenthedrivesensesaWORMcartridge,thefirmwareprohibitsthe
changingoralteringofuserdataalreadywrittenonthetape.The
firmwarekeepstrackofthelastappendablepointonthetape.
Cleaning Cartridges
Cleaningcartridgesarevalidfor50uses.Donotrewindandreusethe
materialinacleaningcartridge.Reusingthematerialmayredistribute
contaminantspreviouslyremovedfromthetapepath.Ifallofthecleaning
materialisused,discardthecartridgeanduseanewcleaningcartridge.
