RETRIEVING A DRIVE TRACE OR DRIVE DUMP FILE
SpectraLogicusesdrivetracesanddrivedumpstohelpdiagnose
problemswithadrive.Adrivetraceisasetoflogscollectedbythelibrary
tohelpdiagnosedriveerrors.Adrivedumpisafilegeneratedbythedrive
whenitencountersanerrorstate.Youonlyneedtoretrieveadrivetraceor
drivedumpwheninstructedtodosobySpectraLogicTechnicalSupport.
Therearethreetoolsforcollectingdrivetracesanddumps.Thebesttoolto
usedependsonthetypeoffilerequestedandtheabilitytodownloadand
installITDT.
ToretrieveadrivetracefromLTO‐5andlatergenerationdrives,Use
theDriveTracesButton.
Toretrieveadrivedump,ifpossible,UsetheIBMTapeDiagnosticTool
(ITDT)toRetrieveaDriveDumponpage403.
ToretrieveadrivedumpwhenyoucannotuseITDT,UsetheBlueScale
RetrieveDriveDumpUtilityonpage404.
Use the Drive Traces Button
DrivetracesforLTO‐5andlatergenerationdrivescanbegeneratedand
retrievedusingtheDriveTracesbuttonontheDrivesscreen.
Note: TheDriveTracesbuttonisnotsupportedforTS11x0technology
drives.
Before You Begin
BeforeyoubegingeneratingadrivetraceusingtheDriveTracesbutton,
makesureyoufulfillthefollowingprerequisites.
Emailing Results Ifyouplantoemailthedrivetracefiledirectlyfromthe
library,makesurethatyousetuptheintendedemailrecipientasamail
user(see
ConfigureMailUsersonpage118).
Saving Results to a USB Device Ifyouplantosavethedrivetracefiletoa
USBdevice,youmustplugtheUSBdeviceintooneoftheUSBportsonthe
LCMortheoperatorpanel(T950Bonly)andallowtimeforthedeviceto
mountbeforeyouclickDrive Traces(seeUsingaUSBDeviceonpage178).
Note: IfaUSBdeviceisnotpluggedintothelibrary,theoptiontosave
thedrivetracefiletoaUSBdeviceisnotavailable.Youcan,
however,stillemailthetracefileordownloadthefile.
User Privilege Requirements Onlyauserwithsuperuseroradministrator
privilegescanusetheBlueScalesoftwaretoretrieveadrivetracefile.
